The appeal goes for more attention to strengthening the role of women in society, as the only way t contribute to the increase of welfare of the family and children. Terre des hommes has always contributed to the empowerment of women, especially through economic empowerment schemes. One of them is Fatmira, who, being part of this self-employment opportunities, has managed to open her hairdresser. On this 8th of March, Fatmira addressed the women who, like her, face daily challenges to ensure the well-being of their children, with this message:
"Women should be the masters of themselves and give themselves courage to be able to do it. It is difficult, but when you fight for the child, nothing is difficult."
In an interview given to a local television network in Shkodra, she tells how her life has changed since she returned from Greece, where she had migrated irregularly. Fatmira has faced great challenges to start life from scratch, together with her husband and two children, one of whom has an autism spectrum disorder, but through the support of the economic empowerment program implemented by Terre des hommes Albania, with the support of the German Government in cooperation with GIZ Albania, Fatmira has managed to open a hairdresser and be able to restart her life.
"Life remains difficult, but I can still say that I made it." - she said.
The Economic Empowerment Scheme is part of the project for the reintegration of families returned from irregular migration through their social and economic empowerment, implemented since 2019.
