The UEFA strategy of child protection in football

The agreement’s details, already signed between Terre des hommes and the Albanian Football Association, were the focus of the interview at the "Euronews Weekend" studio, where Mrs. Valmira Greca, the Program Officer on Child Protection of Tdh, at the same time as a focal point for CP policies, was invited along with Mr. Armando Mandro, the Security Officer at the Albanian Football Association.

Mrs. Valmira Greca: This is a very important moment in our work coordination, between the Albanian Football Association and Terre des hommes. It is a moment of consolidation of our previous efforts to develop child protection policies in sports activities. Through this agreement, we validate our commitment to continue this intervention towards each sports activity either at the national level, or at the regional and local level. The aim is to provide support for a new functional mechanism which is going to guarantee the implementation of child protection policies in football. We work through the expertise of Terre des hommes, which for 30 years has been supporting setting up an integrated child protection system in Albania, to assist through our technical experience, by building the capacities of the professionals who work in football.

Security Officer at the Albanian Football Federation, at the same time as the Contact Person for child protection policies for the AFL, Mr. Armando Mandro said:

"The protection of children is one of the universal rights in the world, and in Albania, as well. We intend for this initiative to spread throughout the country, in all the cities where football is played, where there are children's sports academies, and the main clubs. Initially, we will establish focal points in the big football clubs of the superior league and in the clubs of other categories as well. They will be trained under the 'trainers of trainers' system and then they will train the management staff at the clubs."
