As technology evolves, the amount of time young people spend online is increasing, so there is a need to protect them from the risks associated with the spread of sexual violence on the internet. The Technological Coalition for a Safer Internet research project, in which Terre des Hommes is one of the implementing partners, together with Royal Roads University (Canada), International Institute for Child Rights and Development (USA), and Kenya Alliance for the Advancement of Children (Kenya) aims to provide more support to governments and civil society actors to better understand the risks young people face while browsing the internet. At the same time, it seeks to provide the right guidance for drafting the best policies to avoid such risks.
On the other hand, through this research project, it will be the young people themselves, aged 13 to 18, who will be engaged to identify practical solutions to ensure internet safety, which can be included in the recommendations for the main sectors in the technology field. Based on their own experiences, the young people will also be asked about the experiences of younger age groups (7-12 years).
The project, which started to be implemented in February of this year, aims to provide practical solutions devised by young people themselves which will come as proposals to the respective governments of the three countries involved in this initiative.
