Gender, children and youth issues in media

"Gender, children and youth issues in media" was the activity in which the main issues were brought to attention on the treatment of gender equality in the media, the use of inappropriate and sexist language, the misuse of personal data, especially when it comes to minors and young people.

During the interesting discussions, young people engaged in the project "Youth Voice for Justice and Rights" had the opportunity not only to get acquainted with the role of responsible institutions in protecting children's rights in the media, but also with ways of reporting and responding to audiovisual content with sensitive information, with inappropriate gender content, the misapplication of personal data during reporting, the need for professional and ethical reporting, but also the important role of audiovisual operators not only in the context of public information but also in educating and creating media standards in the country.

This activity, thanks to the engagement of Mrs. Mirela Oktrova - Chairperson of the Council of Complaints, AMA, Mrs. Alma Tandili – Head of the State Agency for Child Rights and Protection, Mrs. Klaudia Hasanllari – Director of the Center for Prevention of Crime of Minors and Young People, journalists Ms. Glidona Daci and Ms. Valbona Sulce, was an opportunity to discuss in a friendly and professional manner the concerns raised by the young people themselves on the issues of the treatment of girls and Women in the media, promoting wrong models, the need to intensify efforts to increase the level of media literacy of critical thinking with children and young people, but also for the personal responsibility of everyone in creating media spaces and sharing of verified information and ethical content.

During these discussions, the problems of children and youth in contact with and or in conflict with the law were received during these discussions. The child's highest interest should be the guide of any reporting, regardless of the situation in which the child is in, the importance of the news, the need for increased audience and visibility, etc. This activity served as an inspiration for further and concrete engagement by young people themselves towards a media environment more responsible and sensitive to gender issues and children's rights.
